Aqua & Kousou ekisu & Camellia sinensis leaf & Cyathea medullaris leaf extract & Ribes nigrum (Black currant) fruit extract & Pentylene glycol

What is it?Red Seaweed, Mamaku - Black Fern, Green Tea & Blackcurrants Active Ingredients

Origin: Natural/Plant

Regulatory: COSMOS Approved

This active ingredient has been obtained from New Zealand Native Red Seaweed, Mamaku - Black Fern, New Zealand grown certified Organic Green Tea and Blackcurrants.

Due to New Zealand’s pristine natural environment, its land and sea botanicals may well contain one of the most powerful levels of antioxidants in the world.

This active ingredient has been processed via bio-liquefaction method. This low-speed and cold-crushing technology recovers 100% of plant bioactive compounds, retaining the plant vitality and efficiently releasing vitamins, antioxidants, enzymes, and minerals.

The New Zealand Native Red Seaweed is an excellent source of minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes. It contains sulphated glucosaminoglycans that are known to form a fishnet like matrix that help to provide a hydrating, tightening and plumping effect on the skin.

The Mamaku - Black Fern is a native New Zealand plant that was used in traditional Māori herbal medicine as a dressing for sores. It contains Glucuronomannans, which creates a viscoelastic matrix that can help hydrating, restoring and lifting the skin.

Green Tea delivers a protective function on the skin, helping to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory processes. Blackcurrant might help restore the production of elastin, collagen I and III. It also has UVB protective and anti-inflammatory effects.

The combination of Green Tea and Blackcurrant produce a catalyst effect by helping to restore and protect sun damaged skin.

Pentylene glycol acts as a hydrating and solvent agent. It’s antimicrobial, aids penetration of other ingredients and acts as a silky-feeling enhancer.

Squalane

What is it? Lipid

Origin: Natural

Squalene is a naturally occurring compound produced by all plants and animals including humans. It is one of the most common lipids produced by human skin cells and acts as a powerful moisturiser and natural antioxidant.

Squalene is an important component of the skin's natural emollient system. Young skin produces sufficient levels of squalene but as we age the levels drop considerably. Deficient levels of squalene can be responsible for many of the signs of ageing skin, such as the tendency to become thinner and damaged more easily resulting in dry, sagging, and wrinkly skin.

Our products make use of squalene derived from olives to replenish the natural levels of squalene in the skin. This helps hydrating and softening the skin, regulating oil production and protecting the skin from free radicals.

What are free radicals?

To understand free radicals a basic understanding of chemistry is necessary.

When atoms have unpaired electrons, they become unstable free radicals that seek other atoms or molecules to bond to. This continued process can lead to oxidative stress.

As the body ages, it loses its ability to fight the effects of free radicals. The result is more free radicals and more oxidative stress that can damage the body’s cells causing symptoms of ageing, such as wrinkles.

Antioxidants are substances that prevent or slow down the rate of oxidation. They are themselves oxidised by the free electron but remain stable, and hence prevent that electron from causing further instability.  E.g. phenolic compounds and vitamin E. Phenolic compounds are present among others in rosemary leaf extract, olive leaf extract, red seaweed extract, green tea extract and manuka honey.

Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax

What is it?: Cera Bellina

Origin: Natural

Cera Bellina is a hydrophilic (water-loving) derivative made from beeswax.

It enables oils to be gelled creating soft, smooth gels with a satin-like skin feel.

Cera Bellina is made by converting the free fatty acids found in Beeswax into polyglycerols esters through the use of heat and vacuum. This improves the oil gelling and oil retention capability of the wax.

Mel

What is it? Manuka Honey

Origin: Natural

Regulatory: UMF™ 10+

Manuka honey is produced by bees collecting the nectar and pollen from the native Manuka flower, only blooming a few weeks in the year within pristine New Zealand forests. The bees transform this unique nectar into iconic Manuka honey.

Unlike any other country, New Zealand has a scientific definition of Manuka honey.

What separates Manuka honey from the conventional kind is the high levels of methylglyoxal (MGO) as well as the presence of Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) & Leptosperin.

Methylglyoxal (MGO) is proposed to be responsible for the strong antibacterial properties present in Manuka honey.

Manuka honey counts with renowned international recognition due to the therapeutic compounds it contains, such as antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins.

These elements work towards fortifying the health and quality of the skin by gently exfoliating the skin while also hydrating, plumping and preventing dryness. This, as a result, helps stimulate the production of collagen which helps the skin maintain its elasticity, firmness and youthful appearance.

It also contains numerous B-vitamins which help promote cell health, reduce inflammation and provide antibacterial activity. As a result it may help decrease blemishes, redness, flare-ups and acne.

What is the Manuka honey UMF rating?

The UMF grading system assures purity and quality and is regarded as one of the most recognisable and well-known measures. It directly correlates to the level of methylglyoxal (MGO) present in Manuka honey.

MGO stands for the natural chemical methylglyoxal, a naturally occurring compound found in genuine New Zealand Manuka honey.

At SIORA, we strive to produce sustainably crafted skincare products that contain the best quality Manuka honey.

Hyaluronic Acid

What is it? Active

Origin: Natural

Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in human tissues such as skin, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. It acts as a connective tissue and helps to hold water.

As we age, the content of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, which may contribute to loss of freshness, hydration, moisture and elasticity in the skin and the development of wrinkles.

Our hyaluronic acid is produced from by-products of the bacterial fermentation of corn, wheat and yeast extract. When added to our products, it may help to soften and restore skin’s elasticity delivering a significant anti-wrinkle effect.

Sodium Phytate, Aqua, Alcohol

What is it? Sodium phytate

Origin: Natural

Regulatory: ECOCERT/COSMOS

Acts as a natural chelating agent that effectively prevents metal-catalysed reactions. Metal ions can enter a cosmetic formulation through the production equipment, as impurities from ingredients (e.g. extracts, pigments) and through process water. In cosmetic products, these ions can promote oxidation reactions, rancidity and may cause discoloration.

In addition to its chelating properties stabilising cosmetic products it works synergistically with other antioxidants helping to moisturise, balance oily skin, improve skin elasticity and reduce pore size.

Aloe barbadensis miller

What is it? Aloe vera

Origin: Natural

Regulatory: Certified organic, BioGro

Aloe Vera is well known for its wonderful skin-soothing and moisturising properties. It is also said to be a powerful healing agent, have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, and help to boost the skin's ability to produce collagen.

We use organic certified Aloe Vera extract in our products, a very fine, creamy white powder that when mixed with water is equivalent to Aloe Vera juice. One gram of Aloe Vera powder is the equivalent of 200g of fresh Aloe Vera juice.

Aloe Vera powder is prepared with minimal disruption from the inner portion of the Aloe leaf. The pulp and fibre is carefully removed, the juice is then pasteurised and concentrated utilising low-temperature evaporation.

It is then freeze-dried to produce a product without additional additives or preservatives. Freeze drying preserves most of the long-chain polysaccharides found in the fresh leaf.
