What is it?: Manuka Honey

Origin: Natural

Regulatory: ECOCERT/COSMOS

Origin: Natural

Regulatory: UMF™ 10+

Manuka honey is produced by bees collecting the nectar and pollen from the Manuka flower, only blooming a few weeks in the year within the pristine forests in New Zealand. The bees transform this unique nectar into iconic Manuka honey.

Unlike any other country, New Zealand has a scientific definition of Manuka honey.

What separates Manuka honey from the conventional kind is the high levels of methylglyoxal (MGO) as well as the presence of Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) & Leptosperin.

Methylglyoxal (MGO) is proposed to be responsible for the strong antibacterial properties present in Manuka honey.

Manuka honey counts with renowned international recognition due to the therapeutic compounds it contains, such as antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins.

These elements work towards fortifying the health and quality of the skin by gently exfoliating the skin while also hydrating, plumping and preventing dryness. This, as a result, helps stimulate the production of collagen which helps the skin maintain its elasticity, firmness and youthful appearance.

It also contains high levels of methylglyoxal and numerous B-vitamins which help promote cell health, reduce inflammation and provide antibacterial activity. As a result it may help decrease blemishes, redness, flare-ups and acne.

What is the Manuka honey UMF rating?

The UMF grading system assures purity and quality and is regarded as one of the most recognisable and well-known measures. It directly correlates to the level of methylglyoxal (MGO) present in Manuka honey.

MGO stands for the natural chemical methylglyoxal, a naturally occurring compound found in genuine New Zealand Manuka honey.

At SIORA, we strive to produce sustainably crafted skincare products that contain the best quality Manuka honey.
